Calabria Property Is A Good Investment
But why is Calabria Property a good investment?
Why to invest in Calabria Property?
April 2011 saw more good news for Calabria and for the prospects for property investment in Calabria. Lamezia Therme International airport announced passenger volume figures up almost 20% for 2010 set against a difficult economic global situation. As a result it announced plans where in place for the construction of a low cost carriers terminal. This is expected to see the arrival of all the low cost carriers and Ryanair stated its intention to adopt the airport not only as a well served route but as a strategic hub with aircraft being based there. Calabria's second airport at Reggio Calabria is to also to double in floor area and will welcome international flights from 2012. Great news for those looking to holiday or to invest in Calabria property in the years ahead.
If you spend a few days there you will understand how relaxing, beautiful and unspoilt the area is. However, there are a number of other compelling reasons why smart investors are turning to Southern Italy as the new property ‘hot spot’.
Good capital values
Many investors are agreed that Calabria is one of the main emerging Mediterranean and European property markets for overseas property investment.
This is because property development in Calabria is very much still in its infancy and the Italian authorities have very careful and strict planning regulations. These factors mean that there aren’t thousands of new developments popping up in the region and so prices aren’t being damaged by over-supply.
An emerging market in an established Western European Country: an area likely to see significant growth
Calabria has been targeted by the Italian government as a key area for investment for the last few years. With money from both the national government and from the European Union, the infrastructure is being radically redeveloped through countless projects lasting until 2013 and beyond.
Improvements to access and infrastructure – for example with the development of the nearby Lamezia Terme airport and a new duall carriageway – have attracted both low cost airlines and tourists to the region.
Whilst property prices in the south of Italy are three or four times less than in the north, early indications are that prices in the south are starting to catch up with those in the north. This mirrors the experience in other Mediterranean countries such as Portugal and Spain.
An Increasingly popular area for tourists
Until recently, Calabria was a hidden gem with tourists coming mainly from Northern Italy and from Scandinavia. However, thanks to improvements in access from other parts of the world, visitors from the UK and other parts of Europe are now more common. This increase in demand has certainly helped drive rental income in the region. 2009 and 2010 both saw significant increases.
Part of Calabria’s charm is its unique geography and culture. One of the oldest regions in Europe, Southern Italy boasts over 3,000 years of culture as well as over 800km of beaches and hundreds of small towns and villages from the sea to the mountains. Known as ‘the gem of the Ionian’, it is a destination growing ever more popular with discerning tourists and Isca Marina is particularly well placed to benefit.
